About the Park
 

A couple watches sunrise from the top of the Bruenea Dunes.Bruneau Dunes State Park is located just outside of Bruneau, south of the Snake River and Mountain Home. The park is home to the tallest sand dunes in North America which tower 470 feet above several small lakes. A visitor center offers information on area birds of prey, insects, fossils, wildlife and the sand dunes.

Typical daytime temperatures will be 90-100°F with low humidity. Overnight lows may be as low as 50°F. Mosquito repellent is frequently necessary.Sunset on the Bruneau Dunes

When you are not participating in ISP activities, Bruneau Dunes offers a number of daytime recreation opportunities. Hiking, bird watching and fishing are a few, so come prepared to have a good time.

The camp sites at Bruneau Dunes State Park offer flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. You can camp at Bruneau Dunes State Park, but you don't have to rough it! For information on camping reservations and fees contact Bruneau Dunes State Park at (208) 366-7919.

 
     
About the Bruneau Dunes Observatory

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation and the Boise Astronomical Society have successfully completed the Bruneau Dunes Public Observatory. The facility is now open for observing every Friday and Saturday night, March through November. A public program begins at dusk, and observing continues as lateBruneau Dunes Observatory as people are interested. The facility is also available to be reserved by interested parties. For more information on the weekend public programs or special group reservations contact the park office at (208) 366-7919.

The Observatory houses a 25" Newtonian reflector. A number of portable telescopes are set up outside for public observing, as well. The observatory is supported by dormitory and classroom facility, and the addition of an interpretive center is planned for the near future..
